Start Shooting!!!!

Our assignment is to make two movies , one documentary and one fiction, on any form of livelyhood .

We decided to do the documentary on a local garage for motorbikes, and the fiction was on a tea shop owner.

Documentry..

We chose Ravi motors , opposite the Yelahanka bus stand . Our aim was to show the kind of mood that the space pocesses , about the kind of people , often we noticed that the customers dealt with the owner only , therefore through this documentry we wanted to concentrate on the real guys ' the mechanics ' the kind of work , friendships , their likes , dislikes and most importantly dreams .

Fiction ..

Our fiction story revolves around 2 people with two entirely different lives , first a man who owns a chai kadai almost in the middle of no where , and has got accustomed to a mundane boredom and of not having much customers to provide for or to talk to . The other happens to be a BPO employee who is so restless and is overpowered by her busy life and is not happy with her situation of being in a new place and is very uncomfortable with a nagging boss to work for . The girl , simply walks into his shop one morning , and keeps blabbering about herself ,the man at first finds it irritating to find an extra chirpy customer but then slowly gets fascinated by her talks of a world beyond his tiny shop .By the time she is done with the cup of chai she leaves in a hurry , which leaves the poor chaii waala with a newfound sense of restlessness and a sense of regret for not having being able to talk to her ...

Our process of ideation for the resulting ideas took us from a regular newspaper boy to a girl and a guy who are not so well off but at night they convert themselves into page 3 socialites

We brought into use many aspects of our film appreciation class and tried an approach by providing bothing directly to teh audience , We even discussed the use and creation of symbolic elements to make the movie more thought provoking.

We categorized our work according to our abilities , for instance I and Palak took up the task of writing of the scripts and dialogues and prompters during the shooting whereas Jit took up the task of working on the shot breakdowns , the camera angles and the shooting on field and akash took up the stupendous task of our time consuming editing.

OUR TIMELINE AND ITS BLOTCHES .......

Initially we set up our time table in a manner that we would research and choosing of field location on Saturday and Sunday and begin shooting at the garage on Monday , HOWEVER AS A RESULT OF SOME DRAWBACKS SUCH AS ,
faulty footage etc . We went again to our garage to refine our shots on tuesday . Tuesday too intially was assigned for our shoot at heritage , and soon we found ourselves not so happy with our fiction location.

We chose our actress and employed Jit as our chaii walla yet faced difficulties as we woke up to capture the morning hours as the kadaii we spoke to suddenly refused to co operate therefore that very morning we left to search for more places and landed up wandering near Heritage again where we could finally find a suitable chaii walla who could play his own role as well .
We had a lot of time constraints as we could have only shot the movie between 6 to 8 and our actress had to head to college afterwards . Due to the lack of a detailed shot break down , we had lots of arguments on field deciding camera angles and hence lost a lot of time in the process .
However the next day we prepared a detailed breakdown and hence could get some descent shots in the process , meanwhile we had begun editing on our documentry as well which after a careful evaluation of all the footage we acquired was given shape in the form of a script and followed .
The following day also saw some effective shooting in the morning followed by a very slow documentry editing .
However , some onfield shooting problems were ;

1)continuos intervention of customers.
2)continuos suggestions.
3)increased traffic with the growing morning hour.
4)difficulty in communicating with the chai waala .
5)during the change of teh environment sround us we encountered a lot of confusion in deciding which shot should be taken .
6)and time constraints .

After , which we began encountering problems such as landing up at the site and not finding the man and him wanting to leave the shop in the hands of someone else in order to head back to his hoem town for a personal engagement .

After which again we all stayed back to tackle the problems we were encountering with our film editing , however the last time we went to shoot at our field he refused and we landed up with a completely disconnected story , a completey defeated attitude and a 2Gb edited documentry which absolutely refuses to compress..
